This series of black and white ink illustrations was made for an illustration class in Bezalel. The topic was a blog of a man who describes all his life with short sentences of what he was doing this day, with a “grade” attached to each sentence. I chose black and white drawing, because the atmosphere of the blog reminded me something of “film noir”. Black and white image allows you to stay focused on shape and composition, where sometimes one might get lost.

Pencil drawing, colored by computer. This illustration was made for editorial newspaper illustration course in Bezalel academy. The magazine is about art and science for children. Each magazine comes out with different theme, I took “motherhood” and two others. Usually I don’t use this illustration technique, but I liked it, so maybe I’ll do it again sometime.

Colored pencils and oil pastels on paper + computer generated. An illustration for the cover of the book: “Everything Is Illuminated” by Jonathan Safran Foer. This illustration is part of a series I made for this book, here is another one: https://artbydina.wordpress.com/2010/05/21/the-bead-of-condemnation/. The jewish villagers in this forgotten shtetl which name is a story by itself (Trochenbrod or Zofiówka), are the theme of the background with their grotesque expressions. I enjoyed doing this cover because of the portrait freedom I could use here, while usually I stick to the realistic look. There is something strong in cover illustration, it must be specific and communicative – to make it this way, and still be interesting is a unique art by itself.

Pencil on paper, colored with the computer (CGI). This was one of the illustration options for my final project, for a poem by Kadya Molodowsky, called “open the gate”. I chose another poem and another style/technique, but still, this is one of my favorite images from the project. The inspiration is from some image I found on the internet, called: “girl at the garden gate”.
